So I ended up with Melisandre wielding Lightbringer alone against Tywin, Tyrion, Cersei, Raff the Sweetling, Jacelyn Bywater, and a few generics in the final round. I played Baratheon against his Lannisters and as luck would have it never saw one location card come into my play hand compared to five Lannister locations pouring money into his gold pool each turn. It has a pretty good flow to it, though it can get somewhat complicated fairly quickly with all the card text modifiers. Both of us walked away afterwards with a handful of questions that aren’t answered in the core set’s game guide (such as deck size rules, or ability to play negative attachment’s against an opponent’s characters, or # of attachments allowed per character, etc.), but we had quite a bit of fun learning the game. Was off work today, so had a buddy come over and we tried our first game. This isn’t a problem if you’re familiar with the cards (if not, build decks on the cardgamedb site linked above and they have an option to “Export as OCTGN Deck”) Part of the agreement FFG has with the guys making AGoT available on OCTGN is that they blank out the card text on the images for cards released within the past six months. It contains all card sets up through Secrets of Oldtown. I’m sharing all the files needed to install and play in this one zip for easy access. If you want to do playtesting with yourself or with others online, there’s OCTGN, a free program that is designed to provide a sort of virtual tabletop for card games. The interface is smooth, they’re up to date on the cards with high quality images, and you can save decks online at your leisure. Here’s the link to what’s probably the best online deckbuilding for AGoT.
